Making new friends can be one of the most difficult things to do in recovery, in my opinion it can be the biggest stumbling block to overcome. How do you expect me to not only give up my addiction, but also to give up the people places and things that i am comfortable with? This recovery thing is too hard, so I quit. Yes, this recovery thing is hard at first however you are past your first hurdle with giving up your addiction, now let's move to the next hurdle of making new friends. Many years into my recovery my pastor was giving a sermon on " I went out to make friends and I found any (none) I went out to be a friend and found many". I wish I had heard this earlier in my recovery! As I thought about it, I realized this is exactly what happened to me. If you are struggling in this part of your recovery, I hope you will not give in to the temptation of giving up. It's hard making new friends, but it is so worth it.
